WNBAlien 2011 Previews: Atlanta Dream

Here we go, folks: 12 teams, 16ish hours because I got up a bit late. As tradition dictates, Eastern Conference first, then the West, both in alphabetical order to show no favourites. With a bit of luck I’ll be done before the Lynx and Sparks tip-off in LA tonight, then manage to stay awake through the game.

First up, conveniently enough, just happens to be the team I watched practice last weekend…

As the reigning Eastern Conference champions, we know the Atlanta Dream can be pretty damn good. Continue reading

24 hours, 12 teams, eleventy-billion words of previews

Anyone who’s read one of my preview pieces before (last season’s was here, if you’re interested) will know that I like to make them long, and I like to present them at the very last minute. I also like to make them accurate, and as WNBA teams don’t cut their rosters down to the requisite 11 until the day before the regular season starts, I have to wait until then if I want to know the opening day roster. So here’s what we’re going to do: 12 separate articles previewing the 12 WNBA teams, all coming tomorrow, hopefully finished before the Minnesota@LA game tips off at 11pm ET.

I’d try to make it all pretty and consistent by publishing one every two hours, but I have a horrible feeling that sleep might make that difficult. So come back tomorrow, read the previews, comment in the comments section, then run off and tell all your friends to come here to read and comment as well. It’d be kinda nice if people would read all this stuff, considering how much work is going to go into it…

Welcome, earthlings

The internet doesn’t have enough independent writers talking about the WNBA and women’s pro basketball. So here I am, along with my little green friend up there, Al. Some of you may recognise my name and style from SportsPageMagazine.com, where I may still be making occasional appearances.

The idea of this site is to provide readable and entertaining analysis of the games and events in the WNBA. Some of you may have read my ‘This Week in the WNBA’ column last year – well this season I’m aiming for ‘WNBA Today’ instead, i.e. daily updates about the previous night’s games, injuries, trades, league-wide trends and anything else I can think of. And if you’re really lucky I might cover other aspects of the global women’s game, like the upcoming EuroBasket Women, as well.

Hope you’ll enjoy and keep coming back.
